Terms of Use

These conditions govern use of Smith County Criminal History. Accessing its content or submitting a query means the user accepts every term below. Anyone who does not agree must stop using the website.

NO FCRA USE. This privately operated website has no connection to Smith County, Tennessee, or any government body. It and its advertising partners do not provide services for credit, employment, insurance, tenant, or other decisions regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). This resource helps readers locate official Smith County criminal-record channels. It is neither a consumer reporting agency nor a private investigation firm.

1. What This Website Is

This is a private reference resource with no government affiliation. It does not store official criminal records, retrieve them for users, perform official checks, or submit filings.

Its purpose is to identify custodians and access paths, including the Smith County sheriff, the courts, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation repository, and the Tennessee Sex Offender Registry, along with outside research tools where shown.

2. Rules for Using This Site

Users must not:

  • Use the website in violation of federal, Tennessee, or local law
  • Threaten, stalk, intimidate, or harass a person with information found here
  • Use site content for an employment, housing, credit, or insurance decision
  • Attempt unauthorized access to any account, service, or system
  • Deploy scraping tools, bots, or other automated access against the pages
  • Interfere with availability or another visitor's lawful use

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

No site content or linked-tool result may be used to stalk, threaten, harass, intimidate, or unlawfully discriminate against anyone. Tennessee Sex Offender Registry information carries an especially clear misuse warning. TBI states that threats, stalking, intimidation, harassment, or other misuse may bring prosecution or civil liability. Registry access serves public safety awareness, never private punishment or vigilantism.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

We are not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA and do not create credit reports, background reports, or any consumer report. Our services and linked advertising tools are not provided for regulated screening. Information from either may not be used to:

  • Make a hiring, employment, or termination decision
  • Evaluate a tenant, rental application, or housing request
  • Set insurance terms or assess creditworthiness
  • Decide eligibility for a license, permit, or government benefit
  • Carry out any other purpose regulated by the FCRA

A legally regulated background check must come from an authorized official channel or a provider that complies with the FCRA and all applicable law.

5. No Legal Advice

General information about Smith County records is not legal advice. Only a licensed Tennessee attorney can advise how a warrant, charge, conviction, or expungement rule affects a particular matter.

6. No Warranties

All content and services are offered "as is." There is no promise that:

  • A page is complete, accurate, or current
  • Partner search results are correct or comprehensive
  • The website will always be available without interruption
  • The service is free from defects, errors, or security weaknesses

Charges, dispositions, registry entries, and expungements can alter an official record. Delays and omissions are possible. No statement here should be treated as a certification by a Smith County office, Tennessee court, sheriff, or state agency.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links may lead to public agencies, courts, legal resources, or outside search companies. We do not control a destination's availability, content, data practices, accuracy, or prices and accept no responsibility for them. Review that service's terms before use.

8. Intellectual Property

Text, graphics, logos, and code belong to Smith County Criminal History or the applicable content partner. Copying, distributing, changing, or creating derivative material requires prior written permission unless law provides otherwise.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for damages arising from use of the website, its content, or any linked service, including reliance on information found through them.

10. Indemnification

A user agrees to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, demands, and proceedings caused by that user's site use or breach of these terms, including reasonable legal costs.

11. Governing Law

Tennessee law governs these terms. Any dispute arising from use of the site must be brought in a court located in Tennessee.

12. Changes to These Terms

These terms may be revised at any time. A new version becomes effective when it is published on this page.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be restricted or ended at any time, with or without prior notice.

14. Severability

If one provision is held invalid or unenforceable, all remaining provisions continue in effect. The affected language will be narrowed only as needed to make it enforceable.

15. Questions

Questions about these terms may be submitted through the Contact page.
